Thought leadership: talks, trainings, and mentorship

Training and mentoring

In my role as product design strategist and UX/UI designer, I was fortunate to mentor and train coworkers on my team. I strongly believe in the power of cross-functional knowledge sharing. As much as I enjoy teaching my peers about my areas of expertise, I also value the opportunity to learn from them.

One of the examples of a thought leadership resource I’ ve created and provided for the team, is our library of UX/UI/IxD best practices. This library contains over 50 write-ups for UI elements, UX patterns, and IxD interactions. It includes best practices and accessibility guidelines as well as lessons learned from our projects.

Talks, presentations, and workshops

Over the years, I’ve been lucky to speak and present at a variety of design and healthcare conferences and events. I’ve presented on topics like “Designing for Accessibility ”, “Digital Health Literacy”, “Inclusive Design”, “Numeracy and Data Visualization”, and more. I’ve led design thinking workshops and have led online and in-person trainings.

A slide from the Design For Accessibility deck. The slide shows a few bullets that explain why accessibility needs to be built-in instead of bolt-on (as an after thought). The slide has 2 pictures, one shows a beautifully designed sink with sections for short and tall people. The other picture shows a sink with an ugly and hard-to-use foldout step stool beneath it.

Health Literacy Online

Health Literacy Online is about broadening access to user-friendly digital health information and services. This research-based guide discusses the why and how to create health websites and other digital tools for a range of audiences. When the time came to update and refresh the official Health Literacy Online resource, I was responsible for most of the UX /UI guidelines.
