Interactive Resume
I created an interactive resume. It's a choose-your-own-adventure wizard where you can learn more about me. Here's the story of how it came to be.
A few weeks back, I started to create an interactive resume. The first version was a sidescrolling game. The idea was that you learn about me as you play. Halfway through the build process, I realized my idea wasn't the right solution for the problem.
I wanted to make it easier — and more fun — for my audience to learn about me and digest the information that's otherwise locked in my resume or cover letter.
The game was definitely more fun than reading boring facts about me. But as I iterated on the gameplay it became evident that there were a few flaws. My audience doesn't have much time and playing a game — even if it only takes a few minutes to complete — takes longer than scanning a resume. I also worried that the actual information could get lost as the main focus would be on playing the game. And finally, I'm not a game designer, I'm not even a gamer, so personality-wise it wasn't a great fit for a product that's all about getting to know me.
I pivoted to a claymation style animation. That turned out to have it's own share of issues. You can read more about those here.
Back to the drawing board I went. For now, I've settled on providing 3 versions of my resume. The first is a traditional text based resume. The second is the interactive resume linked above (and below). And the third — still to be developed — will be an AI chatbot that can answer questions about me, my professional and personal history, and how we might work together.
Feel free to play around with the wizard. Any feedback is welcome — you can email me, or find me on LinkedIn and message me there.
