Moto Trip Report

When I used to live in Vermont, I'd ride my motorcycle any chance I got. One of my favorite rides was from where I lived in Montpelier down to my in-laws in Chester. I was worried that moving to Massachusetts would mean much less riding. While this turned out to be true, I still have great riding roads close to home. And the ride to my in-laws — now heading north instead of south — is just as nice.

On these rides, I often think about how nice it would be to have my childhood friend around. We grew up riding BMX bikes and skateboards. And later in life, we both started riding motorcycles. We never get a chance to ride together though. He still lives in Belgium, and when I visit I obviously don't bring my bike along.

When I was there last, I floated the idea of a fall foliage trip up into Vermont. He was immediately interested and within a few weeks our plan was set. He'd fly to the US. We'd rent a bike for him. And we'd spend a few days riding northern Massachusetts and Vermont roads.

A collage of pictures documenting a motorcycle trip. Two motorcycles riding into the sunset on a winding Vermont road, riding through neighborhoods, and parked on the shore of a lake.

The trip was last week, and we had a blast. The leaves were just starting to turn. The weather was perfect for riding. And I enjoyed showing my friend around and spending some quality-time with him.

Two pictures of parked motorcycles. One shows 2 bikes parked in front of a tree with the Vermont State House in the background, the other shows the bikes parked in front of an old wooden church.

I'm already thinking about what our next adventure might be.

For now, it's back to work!
